Source: classfmonline. com - Frederick Opoku, Community Secretary of the Old Fadama, has called on the Ghana Police and other state security bodies to devise better ways of resolving the issues that led to the violent clash between the Konkombas and Dagombas last week.
According to him, security will need to be unbiased in the handling of the situation in order to satisfy both parties. This when done, he said, would deal with the remote cause of the clashes between the two groups.

His comments come in the wake of a proposal by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, to relocate the Yam Market at Agbogbloshie in order to deal with crime and lawlessness in the area

A total of five persons have been picked up in relation to the deadly clash between Dagombas and Konkombas which happened on Tuesday April 11. Locally manufactured weapons were retrieved from some of the suspects who are now in police custody.

The clash has resulted in two deaths with several injured as over 30 persons have also been displaced.

The IGP, while addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 12, explained: “One major solution to this is for us to ensure that the people are relocated.”

But speaking in an interview on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday April 14, Mr Opoku said: “The media should be circumspect about how they report on the issues of Old Fadama. Also I would like to appeal to National Security, Ghana Police Service, and all the security apparatus to devise better ways to resolving the Old Fadama issue because whatever happens here at Old Fadama also affects those in the North. We need better ways to resolve the issue.

“The security, the AMA, and other stakeholders should meet us at the roundtable and let us talk on the issues and find solutions to the problem.”
