The Member of Parliament(MP) for Subin, Hon.Isaac Osei and Apostle Kwame Kodua, two of the aspirants seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party(NPP) as presidential candidate for election 2012, exited a friendly meeting ahead of closure on Monday.

According to Peacefm's reporter Yaw Obeng Manu who was at the venue grounds, the action of the two was because the meeting had been "scheduled at short notice and they needed time, since they had to attend to some other pressing matters."

The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reiterated that its national congress to elect a presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections will come off on August 7, 2010.

The date which was in doubt owing to threats of a court injunction by some disgruntled members of the party was confirmed on Monday after a crunch meeting of all the five aspirants of the party convened by the party’s Council of Elders.

The meeting was also necessitated by a press conference organized by four of the five presidential aspirants last week which raised concerns about the party’s preparedness for the congress citing irregularities in the voters’ register and proxy voting. Their concerns were however countered by some national executives of the party including the chairman and general secretary.

Prof. F.T Sai who chaired the Monday meeting said the party had a successful meeting where all the differences were resolved amicably.

“All the problems that have been raised either in the press or to the executive were addressed this afternoon. These problems related mostly, if not entirely, to issues around procedures and processes that are to be followed between now and the election scheduled for 7th of August of this year.”

He noted the cordial atmosphere, happiness and friendliness that characterized the meeting was assurance that the bottlenecks had been dealt with.

A member of the Alan Kyerematen campaign, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, told Joy FM's Sammy Darko that they were pleased with the outcome and that all the issues had been thrashed out.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng, who is also contesting the flag-bearer post, as well as party chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, both expressed great joy at the outcome of the meeting.

A follow-up meeting of all the aspirants is scheduled for July 29 to assess progress of preparations for the August 7 ballot to elect a presidential candidate.
