The first consignment of the supply is expected in July.
This follows a three-day official visit by President John Evans Atta Mills to Equatorial Guinea, Mr. Chris Kpodo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, who accompanied the Head of State on the trip, made this known to journalists on Friday, at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Explaining some high lights of a Joint Communique signed between the two countries at the end of the visit, Mr. Kpodo said the two leaders discussed how to strengthen bilateral relations, which led to the signing of four agreements of co-operation and collaboration in the vital areas of agriculture, Small and Medium Enterprises, trade and education. He said an agreement between the two countries in air services collaboration was also revived.
The Deputy Minister said a delegation from Equatorial Guinea would arrive in Ghana in due course, to discuss with the authorities, how best to seek mutual co-operation in the fields of hydro carbon, maritime transport, education and culture, as well as fishing and the environment.
Mr. Kpodo said Equatorial Guinea shared with Ghana her rich experience in oil exploration, adding that the Ghana Export Promotion Council would soon hold a trade exhibition in that country, with the view to showcase Ghanaian products.
He said President Mills assured the Ghanaian community that government is concerned with their welfare whether they are legal immigrants or not. President Mills also urged them to be of good conduct and endeavour to be exemplary representatives of their motherland. | | > BACK to TOP < | Aboakyer clash, ten injured * Source: GNA | Winneba (C/R), May 8, GNA - A durbar to climax this year's Annual Aboakyer festival by the chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional Area could not take place due to insecurity and the mounting tension in the Municipality.
The Omanhene of the Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Winneba on Saturday. According to him as at 0700 hours on Saturday, the two Asafo Companies Tuafo and Dentisfo No. 2 had still not gone to the bush to capture the live deer, for fear of being attacked, following a clash between the two on Friday evening in which about ten people were injured. He said he would not comment on the situation now but described it as unfortunate and appealed to his people to remain calm to avoid loosing more lives and the destruction properties.
Meanwhile, a number of police personnel, armed with anti-rioting gadgets are patrolling the Municipality to prevent further rioting. As at 1030 hours on Saturday when the GNA visited the durbar ground, there were a handful of people at the place.
According to the Winneba Police, those injured were treated and discharged at the Winneba Government Hospital.
The police said the Tuafo No. one and Dentsifo No. 2 Asafo Companies clashed at Ntwatanan and threw missiles and other offensive objects at each other on Friday evening, resulting in the injuries, and that four people have been arrested to help in the investigations.
People who travelled to Winneba to watch the festival have expressed their disappointment at the situation. A few of them told the GNA that the confusion and the troubles that has marred the celebration, was as a result of chieftaincy disputes. The Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, who is also the Chairman of the Municipal Security Council, told the GNA on phone that "he was at an emergency security meeting and therefore would not be able to comment on the situation". | | > BACK to TOP < | Alan Kyeremanten begins tour of C/R * Source: GNA | Kasoa, May 8, GNA - Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential aspirants has began a one-week tour of the Central Region, as part of his campaign to become the flagbearer of the party.
Mr Kyeremanten held discussions with polling Station Executives, constituency Officers and members of the Council of elders of the party in the Central Region.
Speaking at separate meetings at Kasoa, Gomoa Ankamu and Gomoa Ekwamkrom, Mr Kyeremanten urged the polling station and constituency executives to elect a flag bearer who is dynamic, humble, young and energetic and can win power in the 2012 elections. He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot be easily defeated and that the NPP needed a candidate who could win more floating voters.
Mr Kyeremanten said for the NPP campaign to become solid and strong, it must begin from the polling station executives and assured that he would conduct a clean campaign, devoid of insults and acrimony to enable the party to be strong and united to defeat the ruling NDC in 2012.
He said the NDC government's bad administration has brought untold hardship to Ghanaians and urged the delegates to vote for a candidate who can reverse the negative economic policies to ensure a better life for all. Mr Kyeremanten said Ghana needs a young President and cited US President, Barrack Obama as an example and also in the United Kingdom (UK), where it's likely a younger Prime Minister would be elected.
The Presidential aspirant was accompanied by Mr Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, former Press Secretary to President Kufour, Mr Yaw Buabeng, Mr Kwasi Djamasi, former Volta Regional Minister, Mr George Benson and Nii Adjie Boye, ranking members of the NPP. | | | > BACK to TOP < |

| All about the Ghana Election 2008 | | | | * Saturday, 08th May 2010 | Rawlings not allocated house at AU Village * Source: GNA | Accra, May 8, GNA - The office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has denied a story in the Daily Searchlight newspaper that he has been allocated three houses at the African Union (AU) Village in Accra.
"We wish to state categorically that no such houses have been allocated to the former President and his family. The story is laden with complete falsehood and concoctions that goes to expose the ignorance of the Daily Searchlight as far as basic journalism is concerned," a statement issued from his office on Friday said.
It said the former President and his wife have no intention of staying at the AU Village and would have declined
such an offer from government. "In any case the government has not made any official offer of accommodation at the AU Village.
RAWLINGS NOT ALLOCATED AU VILLAGE HOUSES
The attention of the Office of the President has been drawn to a couple of spurious publications about the former First Couple in the Daily Searchlight editions of Thursday May 6 and Friday May 7 respectively.
In the said publications the Daily Searchlight seeks to convince unsuspecting members of the public that the government has allocated three AU Village houses to the former First Family.
We wish to state categorically that no such houses have been allocated to the former President and his family. The story is laden with complete falsehood and concoctions that go to expose the ignorance of the Daily Searchlight as far as basic journalism is concerned.
It is untrue that the former President arrived back in Ghana in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The former President arrived with his wife from Europe early Saturday evening. It is thus unfortunate that the reliable source of the Searchlight managed to convince the Daily Searchlight that Mrs. Rawlings was at the airport to meet her husband. President and Mrs. Rawlings left Accra on April 7 and returned to Ghana on May 1 together.
This is information that can be crosschecked with the authorities at the Kotoka International Airport and we urge members of the media who wish to convince themselves of the fact to endeavour to follow up with the airport.
President and Mrs. Rawlings have no intention of staying at the AU Village and would have declined if the government had offered. In any case the government has not made any official offer of accommodation at the AU Village.
On Monday May 3 former President Rawlings was not in Accra. He travelled to Tefle in the Volta Region soon after arriving in Accra on Saturday evening. He could therefore not have been at the AU village or any other location outside Tefle as suggested by the newspaper.
Mrs. Rawlings who was in Accra has not visited the AU Village since arriving back in Ghana on Saturday evening.
We appreciate the fact that newspapers love to sell with the name of former President Rawlings, but we wish to caution the Daily Searchlight and all other mediums that carry falsehood on him or re-publish such falsehoods that the former President reserves the right to take legal recourse.
"We appreciate the fact that newspapers love to sell with the name of former President Rawlings, but we wish to caution the Daily Searchlight and all other mediums that carry falsehood on him or re-publish such falsehoods that the former President reserves the right to take legal recourse, "the statement said. | | . | | . | | . | | . | | . |
