* Tuesday, 02 March 2010 | NDC Appointee Blows ¢250 million On Car Key! * Source: PrahPrince-Prince | At a time when operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) are under pressure to locate the 93.7 percent of defaulters of the Micro Finance and Small Loans Scheme (MASLOC), Bertha Ansah-Djan, the woman appointed by President Mills to go and head the place is on a splurge spending huge amounts of cedis to replace just a car key!
In a no holds barred spending spree similar to that of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Bertha Ansah-Djan has forked out whopping GH¢25,000 (¢250,000,000 Old cedis) to replace the keys to a V8 Land Cruiser which was lost by her driver.
According to sources, the vehicle was being used by the past Chief Executive Officer and was made available to the new CEO for her use.
This blog gathers that the driver of the vehicle lost the key and as such it had to be replaced but ironically the key is been imported from the manufacturers of the car and is costing the nation a whopping two hundred and fifty million old cedis (¢250,000,000).
When contacted she said, “it is foolish, haven’t you lost a car key before? What would this story do for the common man on the street?”
She continued that when “I was coming to work in my own car and buying my own fuel did you bother to ask why?”
Bertha Ansah-Djan would not listen to this reporter and hanged up twice whenever she was called to throw some light on the issue saying “you are wasting my time”.
Prior to speaking to the CEO, the Public Relations officer of MASLOC had declined comment saying “I don’t speak on anything to do with the Chief Executive. If it is about her, come to the office and talk her personally.”
The Micro and Small Loans Scheme which was introduced by the Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to provide soft loans to petty traders and small business operators as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and poverty is on the brink of collapse.
Majority of beneficiaries have however refused to repay the loans.
Under the micro credit scheme, 149,690 groups have received assistance, while 7,122 individuals benefited from small loans both totaling GH¢48,585,757. Out of the figure, GH¢1,343,092 was collected over the period. | | > BACK to TOP < | Nana Crushes Alan in 6-2 Rout * Source: The Chronicle | Kumasi — THE FORMER presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, finally put the nail in the coffin of his closest rival, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, after chalking another emphatic victory in the party's National Delegates Conference held last Saturday in Kumasi.
Having dished out what appeared to be the last straw that breaks the camel's back, Nana Addo might as well have finally sent his opponent home packing, after seeing his preferred candidates sweep all the major positions in the party's crucial conference, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday.
It was all joy for the former flagbearer, particularly, having seen his cherished dream of regional balance in the crucial race, apparently come true. In the heat of the party's colourful and much-awaited conference, a former Trade and Industry Minister, Mr. Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen, watched helplessly as his "darling boy" and favoured candidate, Stephen Ntim, surrendered victory to his fiercest rival, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey.
Before the Electoral Commission delegation, led by the Deputy Chairman in-charge of Operations, Mr. Sarfo Kantanka, could officially announce the certified results, both Mr. Ntim and his mentor, Alan Kyerematen, were conspicuously missing from the 40,000-capacity Baba Yara Stadium.
With the exception of the second vice national chairman, and the national women's organiser positions, which were won by the pro-Alan group, all the six major slots were won by the former flagbearer's faction.
In the national chairman position, which was contested by five candidates, including Mr. Felix Owusu Adjapong, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, Mr. Samuel Crabbe, Stephen Ntim, and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, a former Tourism Minister who led the pro-Nana Addo faction, Jake beat his rival Ntim by a clear 226 vote, securing 2,030 votes against that of his opponent's 1,804.
The former Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Sammy Crabbe, polled 43 votes, with the former CEO of Ghana@50 Secretariat, and the ex-Majority leader, securing 29 and 25 votes respectively.
In the vice chairmanship slots, two candidates from the pro-Nana faction, Fred Oware and Sophia Horner-Sam, secured the first and the third vice chairmanship positions, with 2,964 and 1,743 votes respectively, while Sheikh T. B. Damba polled 1,798 to snatch the second vice chairmanship slot. The former women's organiser, Rita Asobayire, could not make it to the last three, after managing only 1, 019 votes, with Michael Omane Wadie, Edward Collins Boateng, Amadu Kareem, and Baaba Otoo, securing 952; 677; 981 and 464 votes respectively.
The General Secretary position was also won by another Nana Addo kingpin, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as "Sir John".
The Kumasi-based legal practitioner, who has gradually become the toast of NPP fans, ditched his main rival, Nana Ohene Ntow, trouncing him by 2,386 votes, as against his opponent's 918.
The other contestants, Capt. Nkrabeah Effah Dartey (rtd), Obeng Busia, and Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, could only manage 431, 139 and 77 votes respectively.
The National Organiser position was won by the not too clear pro-Nana member, Alhaji Moctar Bamba, who polled 3,428 votes to beat his opponents John Boadu and Isaac Edumadze, who secured 448 and 75 votes.
The National Women's organiser contest, one of two positions secured by the pro-Alan group, went to Otiko Afisah Djaba, who polled 280 votes, to narrowly beat her only rival, Mrs. Christine Churcher, who secured 260 votes.
In the national youth organiser position, the leading Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) spokesperson and member of the pro-Nana Addo group, beat his main rival, Stephen Amoah, aka Sticker, a long-time supporter of Alan Kyerematen, after polling 273 votes against that of 192 by Amoah. The other candidates, Pius Enam Hadzide and Michael Ampong polled 145 and 15 votes each.
The position of the National Co-ordinator of the Nasara Club went to one Abubakar Suleiman, who secured 150 votes beat his opponents, Alhaji Tanko Maharaja and Mohammed Amin, who polled 47 and 50 votes each. | | > BACK to TOP < | Ga Mantse Flays Mills * Source: peaceFMonline | "Don't Be Fooled By Advisors Who Are "Standard Seven Boys"
The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Tawiah III, seems to be on a collision course with His Excellency, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, following what he describes as the latter's deliberate sidelining of him and other Ga Chiefs, and has launched a rather vile attack on the President and some of his advisors, labeling them as "standard seven boys."
Nii Tackie Tawiah III virtually hit the roof and denigrated the President for totally ignoring his clout and that of other Ga chiefs by refusing to invite them to state functions since he took office in 2009.
According to him, it is time the President discards the notion that he (the Ga Mantse), was installed by the NPP government; therefore his (Mills') administration will never be associated with him. He accused the Mills' administration of deliberately sidelining him and sought to remind President Mills that Ga chiefs are not fools to be sitting in Accra and not be invited to state functions.
"The President of the Republic of Ghana is so fully persuaded that the NPP had installed the Ga Mantse, the least he can do is provide evidential proof. He must be able to tell us how this manifested..He more than anybody else knows that this is an impossibility.Additionally, we're not fools sitting in Accra, because the President cannot proceed on the basis he is doing," he averred.
A visibly angry and highly agitated Nii Tackie Tawiah opened up to what he perceives as injustices being perpetuated by the Mills' administration against the Ga State during an exclusive press briefing held after a durbar of chiefs at the Ga Mantse's palace over the weekend.
The Ga Mantse accused President Mills' of embarking on a deliberate ploy to place some Ga traditions on its reduced priority list since coming to power, and issued a rather stern note of caution asking the President not to be deluded into thinking that he can change anything that has to do with the people of the Ga state.
".when he read the ..State of the Union Address.no Ga chief was present, because none was invited. If this was not the case, he should tell us. We also are aware that there's been a deliberate effort of gov't not to carry out any of our traditions, that is why no libation is poured on any state occasion by the Wulomei.Whatever he does, he must remind himself that this state is for the Ga's, and he cannot change that," he warned.
Nii Tackie Tawiah III virtually derided and poured invectives on President Mills' advisors when he labeled them as "Standard Seven Boys" and charged the President to use his background as a Law Professor to get to the bottom of issues, especially Chieftaincy matters, otherwise he will be "allowing himself to be fooled."
"If you have a Head of State who is a Professional lawyer.a great deal is expected of him and it is also expected that he will not yield to counsel from "Standard Seven Boys", but would use his background to at least find out from those who are legible about the institution of chieftaincy in the Ga state to investigate and give him a report..Any President doing anything short of this is misleading himself and allowing himself to be fooled by his own circumstances," Nii Tackie Tawiah III stressed. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | > BACK to TOP < |

The workers, who carried placards and chanted war songs at the premises of the company, called on the Auditor-General to audit operations of company.
In a resolution made available to GNA in Tema, the workers complained about the indiscriminate manner in which management of the company approached issues concerning workers' salary.
They alleged that the human resource and assistant operations managers of the company were insensitive to their plight.
The workers further claimed that management showed gross disrespect for their human rights and did not undertake job evaluation to bridge the gap between sections and departments at the company. They alleged that there were no training programmes and skills-sharpening schemes and that transport allowance which was to be reviewed since October last year, was still "hanging." The workers complained about the non-payment of accident claims, night, risk, shift, utility and rent allowances.
They accused management of aberration of the company's collective bargaining agreement, which resulted in arbitrary dismissals of workers. The workers said they were prepared to talk to either the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, or the sector Minister, for an amicable settlement of their grievances, on condition that the human resource and assistant operations managers were excused from the terminal.
When contacted on phone for his reaction to the workers' action, Mr. Mohammed Samara, Director of the company, told GNA that he was at a meeting. 2 March 10 Attention recipients, item 02 ends first cast. | | . | | . | | . | | . |
