Akufo-Addo Denies True Statesman Story

* Source: Herbert Krapa / Press Secretary

The new year has unfortunately begun with yet another lie from the NDC gutter press about Nana Akufo-Addo. The latest effusion comes from a paper called “The True Statesman”, which has a headline in its Tuesday 10th January edition: “Nana Akufo-Addo’s Mercenaries are in Town”. It purports to be a report of a meeting allegedly held last Sunday, 8th January at the Cottage Hotel in Bubuashie, Accra, where the NPP 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, addressed “Wounded Lion”, an alleged militant group allegedly from Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, on a strategic plot to cause mayhem in the country before, during and after the 2012 general elections. According to the paper, the Ghana Police Service is on top of the issue and is monitoring events with “eagle eyes”. The entire story is a total lie.

Nana Akufo-Addo left Accra on Thursday, 5th January by air (Starbow 16.30 flight) for Kumasi where he spent the night. The following day, 6th January, he proceeded by road to Prang to participate in the midday Friday prayers of the Tijaniyya Muslim faith in their Maulid. He returned to Kumasi the same day, and spent the entire weekend in Kumasi, attending in the morning in Effiduase, the one week funeral ceremonies of the late NPP Chairman of the Effiduase Asokore constituency, Mr. Afram Agyeman. In the afternoon, he attended with his wife the funeral of the late Ms. Anastasia Gyasi at the Kumasi Heroes Park.

He returned to Accra on the 17.15 Starbow flight from Kumsai on Sunday 8th January. From the airport, as his wife went home, he went to visit the former President of the Republic, H.E. John Agyekum Kufour. He then went home. He was never at any such meeting in Bubuashie as alleged, and has no knowledge of any such meeting. He has indeed never been to any Cottage Hotel in Bubuashie and has no knowledge of its whereabouts and has no mercenaries, imaginary or otherwise. The report of the so-called True Statesman is a gross fabrication.

We are aware of the desperate attempts that are being made and will be made in NDC circles to implicate Nana Akufo-Addo in some cooked up plot to justify police action against him. These attempts will fail. Nana Akufo-Addo will continue to be what he has always been – a firm believer in peace and democratic politics, who abhors cheats and bully boys in that process. He has never been, and will never be involved in anything that smacks of violence in politics.

It is obvious that, at a time when the full failure of the Mills-Mahama led NDC government has become evident to all Ghanaians, the latest incident of this failure being the infamous Woyomegate, where apparently the colossal sum GH cedis 92.8 million has been wrongfully paid from public funds to an undeserving recipient and known NDC financier, strenuous efforts will be made to blacken the name and reputation of Nana Akufo-Addo. They will fail.

The Ghanaian people are not the naive people that the NDC gutter press takes them for. The NPP and its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, are going for an outright victory in this year’s elections and not for any so-called power-sharing arrangement. This incompetent NDC government has to be peacefully retired for the sake of the future of Mother Ghana.
This is for the record.

African Leaders Must Address Unemployment - Akufo-Addo

* Source: NPP- PRESS RELEASE 24TH NOVEMBER 2011

PRESS RELEASE 24TH NOVEMBER 2011

African Leaders Must Address Unemployment, Akufo-Addo Tells International Conference

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that the most pressing issue which African leaders must be seen to be addressing forcefully is unemployment as ignoring this issue will result in social and political instability across the African continent.

According to the NPP flagbearer, in spite of the impressive growth recorded in sub-Saharan Africa, from 5% in 2010 to 5.7% in 2011, Africa’s growth which is driven heavily by the extractive industries is described the world over as “jobless growth”.

Nana Addo made this known today when he delivered the keynote address at the 12th Windhoek Dialogue Parliamentary conference in Accra, taking place at Novotel from 23rd to 25th November 2011.

The example in Ghana where there is a newly formed and fast growing Association of Unemployed Graduates and that of Tunisia where the recent revolution was ignited by a single frustrated graduate are, in the opinion of the NPP flagbearer, indicators that “the youth of Africa want job-centred economic policies.”

“Chairman, the structure of our economies is just not built for jobs. An economy driven by exports in raw materials just cannot create the necessary large pool of decent jobs with decent pay. If it had, our people would have enjoyed prosperity a long time ago,” Nana Addo stressed.

To arrest the situation of unemployment in Africa, Nana Addo said the structural transformation of economies across the continent from mere producers and exporters of raw materials was needed.

Citing the example of Ghana to buttress his assertion, Nana Addo stated that Ghana has not departed from being a “Guggisberg economy”, one that was structurally dependent on the production and export of raw materials, as gold, cocoa and crude oil will account for at least 81% of total exports for 2011 according to 2012 budget estimates.

The transformation of the Ghanaian economy, under an Akufo-Addo administration he said, “will focus on building an integrated industrialisation programme, with a clear bias towards supporting our small and medium scale enterprises with access to science and technology, incentives and markets to make them more productive and competitive.”

“What is required this time is the requisite leadership to inspire the transformation of the structure of the Ghanaian economy,” Nana Addo said, adding his government will introduce programmes, policies and incentives that will spur growth across all sectors of the economy “generating employment and income for our youth.”
“We need to restore hope and confidence in our young people in Ghana. We need to restore their hope and confidence in Ghanaian leadership. We need to offer them hope and skills for decent jobs with decent pay,” Nana Addo said to rousing applause from the audience.

The Chairman of the programme, Michael Gahler, responded to Nana: “Thank you very much Nana for this inspiring speech. It shows clearly that you are a leader with a clear vision for not only Ghana but also Africa. We hope you can translate this in a way that will resonate in all the towns and villages across Ghana. And we wish you the very best in next year’s elections.

Mr Gahler is the group co-ordinator of for the European People’s Party of the European Parliament.
The conference was also addressed by Ambassador Claude Maerten, Head of the EU delegation, Ghana and Samakuva Isaias, Federal President of Union of Parties for Democracy and Development of the African Parliament.

Akufo-Addo: NPP Wants To Add More Value To Ghana

* Source: NPP  (24.11.2011)

“My message for Ghanaians is this: the time to build a potent value added economy in Ghana, driven by a confident, educated workforce, is now. My government will not shy away in making the critical choices with the long-term interest of our people in mind.

“We will invest heavily in building up the most important ingredient for development: the intellectual property of the people – the mind – education, education, education – our only key to success. We want to add value to our human capital, add value to our governance, add value to our public services, add value to our infrastructure and add value to our economy.”

These were the words of the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when he delivered the keynote address at the 12th Windhoek Dialogue Parliamentary conference in Accra, taking place at Novotel from 23rd to 25th November 2011.

According to Nana Addo, the NPP wants to add value to every facet of Ghanaian life, explaining that the NPP is determined to “get Ghana once again leading our continent in entrenching democracy and transforming the structure of the African economy to a modern, manufacturing kind that has the capacity to create and spread wealth across the length and breadth of our vast continent.”

The NPP flagbearer stated that despite the fact that Ghana is arguably the most stable democracy in our region, has seen a sustained economic growth over the past decade, record hikes in prices and cocoa over the last couple of years and currently has a large pool of millions of educated Ghanaians, Ghana’s economy continues to a “Guggisberg economy.”

Ghana’s economy, according to Nana Addo, continues to be a mere producer and exporter of raw materials as 2011 budget estimates, as contained in the 2012 budget, reveal that cocoa, gold and crude oil account for at least 81% of Ghana’s total exports.

An Akufo-Addo administration, he said, will focus on building an integrated industrialisation programme, with a clear bias towards supporting our small and medium scale enterprises with access to science and technology, incentives and markets to make them more productive and competitive.

“We will introduce programmes that will boost the agricultural sector and introduce incentives that will encourage our banks to provide affordable credit and other financial services to SMEs and launch a new wave of small and viable industries across Ghana,” Nana Addo said.

He continued, “The recent petroleum find offers us the perfect opportunity to create a petrochemical industry in Ghana, including monetising our gas to create a multi-billion dollar gas feedstock industry. We have the opportunity to make Ghana a regional centre for light manufacturing industry for a regional market of some 350 million people and beyond, by linking together our numerous natural resources, like food produce, bauxite, iron ore, oil and gas, with our talents and energy to turn our nation into an economic powerhouse in Africa, generating employment and income for our youth.”

Other speakers on the day included Ambassador Claude Maerten, Head of the EU delegation, Ghana; Samakuva Isaias, Federal President of UAPDD of the African Parliament (Union of Parties for Democracy and Development) and Michael Gahler, the group co-ordinator of for the European People’s Party of the European Parliament, chairing the programme.

Re: Steve Mallory Owes “Credibility” Billions of Dollars

* Source: Boakye Agyarko Campaign Manager, 2012 NPP Presidential Campaign / 29.08.2011

Dear Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe,

I have read with shock and dismay your article captioned above in which you make a claim that Mr Steve Mallory, the Editor of the Africawatch Magazine, was on a mission to extort money from the Akufo-Addo presidential campaign and that I, Campaign Manager, rebuffed him and told him off and that as a result of this attempted extortion I referred to Mr Mallory as “a mercenary.” This is false. I have never had the occasion to rebuke Steve Mallory for what you alleged and I have not referred to him as a mercenary.

There has never been an occasion when Mr Mallory has attempted to extort money from the NPP Presidential Campaign of Akufo-Addo. And, I should repeat, that I am shocked that you would write such a thing.

Dr Okoampa-Ahoofe, I do not know you, I have never spoken to you, much less, discuss such matters with you. Indeed, if you pass by me, I would not be able to make you out as Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe. What you allege in your article and attribute to me, I dare say, is a figment of your own imagination.

Furthermore, since you make reference to the Akufo-Addo campaign, I should say with all the authority I can muster that the “source” of your allegation could not relate to anyone associated with the Akufo-Addo campaign, whether political advisors, lawyers, activists or the like.

I would appreciate it very much if you could correct your piece to reflect what is true since what you had written in reference to me and the Akufo-Addo campaign is clearly and wholly UNTRUE. I trust that you would be gentlemanly enough to correct your own errors.

Signed

Boakye Agyarko Campaign Manager, 2012 NPP Presidential Campaign

Nana Raps Mills

Source: Daily Guide Ghana / 30.11.2010

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taunted President John Evans Atta Mills once again, saying the President has not been able to fulfill a single campaign promise since his election as President of Ghana.

“President Mills in the run-up to the 2008 elections said so many things and made a lot of promises but almost two years into his reign, he has not been able to fulfill a single promise.”

Nana Akufo-Addo made the statement at Madina, a suburb of Accra at the weekend when the NPP held a mini rally organized by the Madina Abokobi Constituency. Some of the party’s stalwarts were all present at the rally which formed part of the NPP’s strategy to assess its preparedness for the 2012 general elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo said former President John Agyekum Kufuor laid a solid foundation for accelerated development of the country but the President Mills-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had come to put aside all the good things of the NPP administration. “I know the level where President Kufuor took this country to but it is not the exact continuation that we see today under President Mills.”

He said, “In the run-up to the 2008 elections, there were people in this country who said there was too much hardship but today what do we see under the same people who were complaining?”

Turning to the NPP family, Nana Akufo-Addo said it was not true that he had already made his mind about who was going to be his running mate for the 2012 contest, saying he was ready to partner whoever was selected by the party.

He also said that since the NPP amended its constitution to enlarge its electoral college, there had been renewed energy by the members of the party to work harder and added that the only hurdle left to clear was to select the party’s parliamentary candidates without any rancor so that Ghanaians would know that the NPP was ready to resume the reins of government. “We should remain resolute and united and commit ourselves to working hard to bring the NPP back into office.”

Sheikh IC Quaye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Ayawaso Central, said the NDC did not have any real issue to talk about that was why they were engaging in smear campaign against the NPP flagbearer. He said Nana Akufo-Addo could never be a drug baron as being peddled about by the NDC and called it wicked and dirty.

Ken Agyepong, MP for Assin North, said despite claims by the NDC that it was working, the reality on the ground was that that ruling party had failed woefully and the condition of Ghanaians was worsening. “The NDC promised to take care of the less privileged in society but the situation is that the people are suffering. There is too much hardship.”

Scores of NPP stalwarts took turns to address the enthusiastic crowd.

Nana Akufo-Addo -Says Looting of state lands unethical

Source: Daily Democrat

Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeated presidential candidate
for 2008 and newly elected 2012 presidential candidate has blown the lid off his
party’s looting and sharing of government lands at prime areas in Accra and
Kumasi.

NPP’s looting of state lands led by former president Kufuor has attracted a lot
of debate and condemnation from the good people of Ghana and civil society
groups who are urging government to take back the stolen lands from the greedy
politicians and their cronies for the lands to be used for the intended purpose
of increasing the housing density of these areas to accommodate civil servants,
the police, nurses, teachers, doctors and other government officials.
Fearing that the land looting will become a major campaign issue during the 2012
elections and likely to jeopardize Nana Akufo-Addo’s fortune, his camp has
chosen the safe path by admitting that there were wrongdoings and abuse
under President Kufuor in sharing the state lands particularly the
international students’ hostel plots.

According to Gabby Otchere Darko, former editor of the defunct statesman
newspaper and a cousin to Nana, the presidential candidate of the NPP rejected
the offer because he thought it was unethical for government officials to
allocate to themselves state lands which have been entrusted in their care.
He revealed that a call came from castle offering Nana a parcel of land at the
International Hostels Area plot even though he did not applied for any state
land.

The Chief Justice, Madam Georgina Wood had earlier confessed that she was also
offered a plot at the same place through a phone call from the Castle.

The confession by Nana Addo that he rejected the land is an admission that the
whole allocations were illegal considering the fact that he has once been the
legal adviser to President Kufuor in his capacity as attorney general and
minister of justice who understands the legal implications of unlawful
acquisition of state lands.
Political analysts are also interpreting Nana’s action to tell the truth about
how the allocations were done as a tactical move to nail Kufuor and render him
politically impotent, tagging him as corrupt.

It is alleged that president Kufour played a pivotal role in sharing the
international hostels land booty because the offer was meant for a thank you
present. The Castle then established a direct contact with ‘lucky ones’ through
phone calls.
Among the list are Mrs, Georgina Wood, Chief Justice, Freddie Worsemau Blay,
former deputy speaker of parliament and owner of the DAILY GUIDE,K.T Hamound, MP
For Adansi Asokwa, Akwasi Osei Adjei, former minister for foreign affairs,
Oboshie Sai Coffie, Irene Addo and others.
President Kufuor betrays the trust of Ghanaians by allocating state lands to
cronies without recourse to laid down procedures under the Directive Principles
of State Policy

Under the policy, all citizens must strive to implement any policy decisions
for the establishment of a just and free society. The State shall protect and
safeguard the independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ghana, and shall
seek the well-being of all her citizens. The State shall promote just and
reasonable access by all citizens to public facilities and services in
accordance with law. The State shall endeavor to secure and protect a social
order founded on the ideals and principles of freedom, equality, justice,
probity and accountability as enshrined in the Constitution by directing its
policy towards ensuring that every citizen has equality of rights, obligations
and opportunities before the law.
1n 1992, the Town and Country Planning Department with the support of the
United Nations Commissions for Human Settlement (Habitat), prepared a
five-volumes report on a Strategic Plan for the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area.
The Hon. Minister for Local Government at the time subsequently submitted a
memorandum on the Report to Cabinet for approval.

The Town and Country Planning Department, based on the 1992 Accra Strategic
Plan, prepared detailed Redevelopment Schemes for the identified areas in Kanda,
Switchback, Ridge, Cantonment and Airport Residential Areas. The schemes
received Statutory Approval in 1995 for implementation.
In the Scheme, a total of about 159 run down bungalows and flats in Cantonment,
Airport, Kanda and Switchback Residential Areas were identified. Each was
occupying an average of 1.2 acres of land required over fifty million old cedis
(¢50,000,000.00) at the time to rehabilitate, while the occupants (civil/public
servants) could not even maintain the huge grounds.
Prior to the main redevelopment scheme, the Ministry of Local Government through
the Town and Country Planning Department, the Ministry of Works and Housing,
SSINT and the Lands Commission had implemented the Cantonments Pilot
Redevelopment Scheme to demonstrate the feasibility of the redevelopment
approach. In that scheme, nine run down bungalows were demolished and a total of
67 houses built in their place. These were sold by SSINT to the general public.
The general objective underling the redevelopment concept is the renewal of the
old run-down neighbourhoods by demolishing some of these which were often
located in the centre of huge plots; construct as many new houses as the plot
can take at virtually no additional infrastructural cost. In the process the old
Government bungalows that would be demolished would be replaced by new ones and
substantially improved the physical environment. It was also to reduce
government expenditure on infrastructure and services to newly developing
areas.

Some benefits to be derived were that the redevelopment scheme achieved higher
and optimum densities in these prime areas; ensured more efficient utilization
of existing infrastructure; had a positive impact on the continuous sprawl of
Accra;

It also provided government with new bungalows and flats; (income generated
from the sale of the old bungalows were used to construct as many as possible ,
new bungalows to house the sitting tenants and additional government officials
in virtually the same neighbourhood);
Released the latest values in the land to provide income for government. A
valuation of bungalows and their associated plots done in 1995 showed the
average cost of a bungalow at Thirty Million Cedis ( 30,000,000,00) and the plot
it occupied as Two Hundred Million Cedis

( 200, 000,000 .00).

Nana Addo rejected State Land offer - Gabby

* Source: Citifmonline / 16.10.2010

It has emerged for the first time that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was offered a plot of State Land under the erstwhile John Kufuor administration but rejected the offer.

A close aide to Nana Addo, Gabby Otchere-Darko of the Danquah Institute, a policy think tank disclosed this on Citi FM’s Saturday political talk Show the “Big Issue”.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, Nana Akufo-Addo did not acquire any State Land.

He added that though as Foreign Minister, the International Students Hostel Area was under him, (Nana Addo) Mr Otchere Darko said when issues about the sale of the plots came up, Nana Addo made it clear to him, (Gabby Otchere-Darko) that he did not think it was ethical for the sector minister to benefit from any such public offer and that he had never acquired land from the state.

Asked whether Nana Addo was offered any State Land, Mr Otchere Darko asked “by who? The Land Commission? I’m not aware of any such offer but what I do know is his ethical position on that matter”

The government on Tuesday October 12, said it had halted with immediate effect, the “rampant disposal of state lands in some prime areas of Accra” under the Accra Redevelopment Policy.

It also stated that a report from the National Security on the acquisition of such lands had been referred to the Attorney General’s office for advice on the future of the policy, which was instituted to facilitate the redevelopment of some government lands and houses in prime areas including Cantonments, Airport Residential Area, Kanda, Switchback and Ridge.

A section of the public have argued that the retrieval of State Lands is politically motivated and targeted at ex government officials under the erstwhile Kufuor administration.

However, a Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has argued otherwise. He told Citi FM in an interview that the exercise to retrieve state lands is not politically tainted but being done in a transparent manner.

Gabby Otchere Darko told Citi FM that state lands acquired by ex government officials can only be retrieved if the lands were not acquired through a legal process.

He added that anyone whose land is wrongfully taken from him should resort to the law court.

Rejoinder: Akufo-Addo Threatened Fantes

* Source: Office of Nana Akufo-Addo / 07.09.2010

The Office of Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, has received with utter disgust, comments being parried about in the mass media by one of the communicators of the NDC, Mr. Allotey Jacobs, that Nana Akufo-Addo, on his way out of the durbar grounds during last Saturday’s Fetu Afahye Celebration in Cape Coast, made comments to the effect that he, Nana Akufo-Addo, will punish the people of the Central Region when he becomes president.

We wish to state, very strongly, that this is just one of the many crude tactics of the NDC meant to generate discontent and dissatisfaction against Nana Akufo-Addo. It is a blatant lie and we condemn it in no uncertain terms. Nana Akufo-Addo did not make any such comment at the durbar grounds or elsewhere. Ethnic or tribal sentiments are not part of Nana Akufo-Addo’s vocabulary, just as the language of reprisals and punishment is foreign to him.

Clearly, Allotey Jacobs and the NDC spin doctors are worried about the warm reception that the people of the Central Region accorded Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage at the durbar grounds. The people of the Central Region are not excluded from the hardships being visited on the Ghanaian people by the NDC administration of President Mills and are looking to the NPP and their flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, to bring them in the near future much needed relief. No amount of malicious propaganda will eradicate the goodwill that the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo are currently enjoying in the Central Region and, indeed, throughout the country. The Office of Nana Akufo-Addo is content to leave propaganda politics and the politics of lies and fabrications to those who know no other politics.
The people of the Central Region and those of the other nine regions of Ghana are an essential part of our nation’s fabric and an Akufo-Addo presidency will treat them with respect, dignity and fairness. The good people of the Central Region are fully aware of this.

Signed
Herbert Krapa
Press Aide to Nana Akufo-Addo

I did not deliberately ignore Nana Addo - Ogua Chief

* Source: Peace FM / 07.09.2010

The Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional area, Osabarima Nana Kwesi Atta ll, has also been explaining why he failed to acknowledge the presence of Nana Akufo-Addo during the celebration of the Fetu Afahye.

Former ace sports commentator and now a presidential aide, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije prevented the NPP leader and his entourage from greeting the government dignitaries, including the Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, on the account that President Mills was on his way to the durbar grounds.

Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, later told Citi FM that the president did not find it necessary to go round and share pleasantries with Nana Addo and everybody else because he had already been delayed by the Chiefs and the Asafo companies.

That action by the presidential aide, led Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwamena Duncan, to conjecture that the cold shoulder treatment given to Nana Addo was because he had described President Mills as ‘Professor-do-little’, and it was a “master grand plan orchestrated” between the “NDC, the Castle and the Paramount Chief of Cape Coast” to embarrass Nana Addo.

But addressing a press conference this afternoon following the extensive commentary of the alleged slighting of NPP’s Presidential candidate, over the weekend, Nana Kwesi Atta ll stated that he was unaware of Nana Addo’s presence at the durbar, hence his failure to recognize him.

“So it wasn’t a deliberate attempt on our part not to recognize him,” the Omanhene for Oguaa traditional area said.

According to him, with the kind of rapport which exists between him and the NPP flagbearer, he (Osabarima Kwasi Atta ll) could not fathom any reason to deliberately refuse to acknowledge Nana Addo’s presence.

“It was not a question of not recognizing him but because we didn’t know he was there. The British High Commissioner, I didn’t know he was there but I saw him sitting there, I talked to him, I waved at him …so it wasn’t a deliberate attempt on our part not to recognize him? After all, he was with us the previous day. He knows almost all of us, he knows me and I also know him so what reason would I have not to recognize him? It is just unfortunate that this has happened but nobody has any intention of not recognizing him,” he explained.

Akufo-Addo's acceptance speech

Sunday, 8 August 2010

First of all, let us give thanks to Almighty God for this day which has seen our event pass off in peace and solidarity. Praise and Glory be to his Name. Amen.

I am particularly grateful to my beautiful wife, Rebecca, and our daughters for their patience, understanding and support throughout this arduous campaign.

To the 107,116 delegates of our great party, who cast their vote, giving us a 95 per cent turnout, I thank you. I’m humbled. My gratitude knows no bounds. I thank you all – from the polling station executives, through the electoral area coordinators, constituency and regional officers, Nasara Club members, TESCON members to our members from the external branches who took time off to fly back home to cast their votes. I thank you. Thank you so very much.

You heard the voices of the people on the ground and voted with them in mind. I thank you and them – the market women, the taxi drivers, the farmers, the fishermen, the workers, the students, the teachers, the nurses, the traders, the businesspersons, the professionals and so many well-meaning Ghanaians. I want also to place on record my gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Regional Police Commanders, and all the police officers who provided security for my campaign as I traveled throughout the country.

God bless each and everyone of you.

Let me also extend my gratitude to all others who contributed in diverse ways, including the prayer warriors and millions of Ghanaians who used their voices and prayers for this victory.

I am humbled also by the fact that, today, I have received from our party the greatest endorsement of any leader of our tradition. This is beyond my wildest imagination. Thank you. Thank you so very much. I promise you, I will not let you down this time.

You can be sure of one thing this evening – they, at the Castle, can hear all this cheering coming down the 28 February Road to Castle Road, and I am sure they are paying rapt attention because today the NPP has spoken with one strong voice.

The message is loud and clear:

THE NPP IS READY, STEADY, UNITED AND GOING FOR VICTORY IN 2012!

BE PREPARED!

I thank the Electoral Commission for supervising and conducting this historic election and the mass media for keeping the Ghanaian people informed on proceedings right from the August 2009 constitutional amendments at the La Trade Fair Site to tonight. Our immediate past-National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, and his executives, are to be congratulated for steering through these far-reaching amendments, which are already serving us so positively and which are contributing greatly to the renewal of our party at its grassroots.

A special gratitude to the National Chairman, Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, and his national team, all regional and constituency officers for defying the odds to organise this historic presidential primary in such a successful kra be hwe manner. Two hundred and thirty one (231) simultaneous polls across the constituencies of Ghana – in a cordial, peaceful, free, fair and transparent manner. Ayekoo! This is excellent!

I, also, want to take this opportunity to thank the party’s National Council of Elders, the National Elections Committee, as well as all the various Elections Committees, for the mature and responsible manner with which they guided the conduct of this historic election.

So far, this is, no doubt, the greatest moment in all my political years. And, trust me, there’ve been many. It gives us a strong platform for the ultimate battle ahead in 2012.

We shall go into that battle confidently on the strong record of the Kufuor presidency – and, Sir, we are grateful to you for that; as well as on the new initiatives and perspectives we shall bring to bear in the course of our 2012 campaign.

The efficiency with which the party, under the leadership of our new national executives, organised this election under five months is a major assurance to all of us that we will, indeed, build an efficient and effective political machine to drive us on to Victory in 2012.

Today, the NPP -- the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition, the noblest tradition in Ghanaian politics -- has shown once more its bold commitment to enhancing democracy in our country. With this election, we have established a strong template for defining the modern contours of intra-party democracy in Africa.

This victory is far bigger than this little, simple man standing before you now. This is your victory; it’s a victory for our party; for multi-party democracy in Ghana and in Africa. This is a victory for a brighter, prosperous future, where the young men and women of our nation can lead dignified, purposeful and fulfilling lives.

Let me thank my four competitors, Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Isaac Osei, John Kodua, and Alan Kyerematen and their campaign teams and volunteers for keeping alive and well the competitive tradition of our party. The party and I are grateful to them for the grace and manner in which they have accepted the results. It is to their credit.

I want to thank members of my campaign team, especially Boakye Agyarko – my campaign manager, the young MPs –- Dominic Nitiwul, Isaac Asiamah, Kobby Okyere-Darko Mensah, Catherine Afeku -- my great contemporary, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover, Brian Acheampong, and the rest of the team who traveled with me throughout the length and breadth of our country and who conducted the most comprehensive party leadership campaign in Ghana’s history. My gratitude goes as well to my able representatives to the National Elections Committee, Messrs Victor Newman and Calus von Brazzi. I want to thank also all my regional and constituency coordinators, polling agents and grassroots volunteers across the country who worked so hard to help deliver this spectacular victory. I also want to say a special thanks to all the leading figures of the party and Members of Parliament, who encouraged and supported me in this campaign. May God bless you all.

I said at the very beginning, when I met the media in my house in Nima, that we have a good story to tell and that we would run a decent and efficient campaign. I am happy that I kept my word and we ran a clean, issues-based, upbeat campaign. We have shown that decency pays off if you have a good message to sell.

The NPP has spoken and the message has been loud and clear. I'm humbled, once again, by the trust and the confidence of my fellow party members. With that trust comes a duty to build a solid, oiled, and sincere united front, from the bottom up.

I am determined to lead an efficient campaign machinery for that crucial victory in 2012. But, the first steps towards that are to build unity. I will work out a programme with the national executives of the party, under the National Chairman, to foster unity across all sections of the party and to decide how best to use the party structures to prosecute the 2012 presidential campaign.

Yes, the overwhelming majority of the party has voted for me. The majority of the people have had their say but the whole family must lead the way to the victory we seek in 2012. We need each and everyone on board. And, I pledge to work with all my heart and soul to achieve this.

Today marks an important moment in the destiny of our great family, the New Patriotic Party. An opportunity has been presented to us for a clear future direction for our beloved Ghana.

The dream of the founders of our tradition to build a thriving democracy and a strong market economy in our country -- which will deliver prosperity for the broad masses of our people under the rule of law, respect for human rights and the principles of democratic accountability -- is still very much alive.

I am calling on all members and sympathisers of our party, and the great majority of Ghanaians to join us in making this dream a reality in our time.

Let us continue to believe in Ghana -- Africa’s Black Star.

God bless you,

God bless the NPP,

And, God bless Ghana.

Thank you

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Your Excellency, I am honored to have an opportunity to write to you.i am a polling station chairperson in the NPP in Tema.I have three issues that is on my heart which the party have to take seriously!
1-reaching out to the industrial areas where hamlets are popping up with people who have come to look for greener pastures but have no house numbers in using to register when the biometric registration starts.how to handle such situation?
2-me and my other four executives have come up with the idea of a welfare amongst the members by helping each other with a specific amount when it comes to for example, funerals, when a member gives birth, when one is hospitalized we contribute in supporting a member. I think this will attract more eligible and floating people into our great party.
3-some of the polling station executives are not working because they know they have a four year man-date,they are not thinking of what they can do for the part but rather what the party will do for them. I think something should be done quickly on this issue which is a worry to me.I believe and hope my message will get to you and you will respond to it. Thank you.

Ko kro kooo,

I read with much interest upon your nomination as the Flag bearer of the NPP for the 2012 Presidential Elections coming up. Congratulation and may God bless you on all of your endeavors.
First and foremost, the good book says "a nation that does not have vision and acknowledge God perishes". I will admonish you to put God first in all that you do for guidance and the rest will fall in place. Not forgetting that you are leading a nation and people make the nation, so do not take Ghanaians for granted. The woes of the nation abound and the people are crying for a leader who will be fair and firm when it comes to decision making. We here in the Denver/Colorado Springs Metropolitan Area in Colorado in the U.S, are following your exploits and will back your campaign in any way that we can.
It is heart breaking to know it takes almost four (4) hours to travel from Kumasi to Accra and we call ourselves as been one of the best countries in the sub-region. The road network should be one of the main focus for which development can come into our country. Movement of goods and services are the main things that drive a nation which you know as such, Ghanaians will be watching and listening to every word you speak and every move you make. Ghanaians will be expecting you to help move the country forward by NOT discarding laid down projects BUT continuing laid down projects. That is how development comes to a country. We are begging you NOT to forsake development for your personal interest because some of us are watching the developments going on back home and we will visit home at the right time. Our country has suffered for too ...

MY HUMBLE SUGGESTION IS THAT, LET OUR SOCIAL COMMENTATORS DEVOTE 5% TO DISCUSS PERSONAL ISSUES AND 95% FOR THE BREAD AND BETTER ISSUES. FOR NDC CAN AFFORD TO WASTE TIME DISCUSSING PERSONAL ISSUES BECAUSE THEY ARE IN POWER. WE CANNOT RISK THAT APPROACH.

Jake, please do not in youR usual NPP self throw dust in the eyes of the peole. We all remember that, inflation gathered upward momentum in 2008 and accelerated in 2009 because of the wreckless spending the nation made during the election year, and it took a while before it stabilized and began a downward trend so it is possible for prices to go up considerably. Secondly Jake knows that a decline in inflation does not mean declining prices but a slow down in the rate at which prices are declining so even as inflation is falling, prices still increase but only at a slower rate. Mr. Jake repent, this tactics of taking advantage of the people's ignorance to throw a mixture of have truths at them did not help NPP in 2008, neither will it help the NPP in 2012.

Nana, you are the only one to bring life into this country. You have what it takes to shake the country and bring it from the backyard where it has been languishing.
We need a charismtic as well as a person with ideas and the conviction to bring the country in line with the civilized and progressive countries of the modern world.
Wake up and march forward for we are all behind you. VICTORY is the word.

Hello Nana,am really grateful for having this opportunity to express my view on victory 2012.Nana what i would like to say is that,be very vigilant and do hard work because you are our only saver.

Please note: the N D C people are very self fish, gold digger and also would do anything with in their power to blackmail us on 2012 election and we the supporters don't want the N D C to back on power 2012.

Please Nana, let be unity and understanding come between u and all the members in the party from head to down because only unity, cohesion, love and understanding can give us victory on 2012 and we the supporters we are doing our possible best to bring the party back to power 2012 and I hope with prayers and commitment God will surely grant us the victory in 2012.

And also be very careful with your life and be prayerful.

Thanks so much and God be with u.

Nana you are our hope for 2012 but I, being the chairman of an NPP group in ELMINA BIG 6,

ALL being polling station exercutives numbering about 100 in [KEEA]am pleading to you personally to let the National exercutives[sir John and others]come down to this constituency to talk to Mr Agyemang Kessie who has decided to terrorize the current constituency exercutives by summorning them to court frequently.

This has crippled the exercutives and made them inactive.

So its only the BIG 6 group and the polling station coordinators and exercutives who are doing the groundswork without logistics.

Please come to our aid so that we win this constituency.

B`cos majority of the people are fishermen we need to disable the NDC tactics before time and the time is NOW.

waiting to heaar from you soon
